We don't have much evidence to show you in this section because the handover book was stolen by the supervisor & has to this day never been returned!!

The supervisor went very quiet around Ray & the bullying was subtle at first.

Ray was taken off the first aid course he was due to attend & keeping in mind that managers were sending injured workers to Ray for treatment, an up to date First Aid Certificate is a necessity by Law - when he asked why, he was told that "The Company will not waste money on people who won't be here for much longer" - by his supervisor!

Ray kept requesting a new uniform - he was only given 2 short sleeve shirts when he started & it was now winter - the Supervisor ignored Ray but kept leaving messages for the new guard about getting his uniform - the new guard was used by the Supervisor to wind Ray up

The Supervisor began spreading malicious gossip around the factory about Ray being a shit stirrer.

Ray's messages in handover book 31 were either circled or penned out

Ray joined a general workers union because he was fearing for his health & safety & his job - the Supervisor started calling him a militant

When Ray first started, the Supervisor would talk to Ray's brother about any problems he had with Ray - when Ray's brother told the Supervisor to speak to Ray about it instead of harassing him, the Supervisor began writing his problems in handover book 31 - he would write messages reprimanding Ray for not doing something & then have to scribble it out because he had realised that Ray had actually done it - he was to quick to accuse!!

The Supervisor stopped doing verbal handover's & started leaving cryptic messages in the book, we say cryptic because the Supervisor left his orders in the form of a catch phrase & if Ray didn't decipher his 'catchphrase' correctly, he would be disciplined - we go into detail with the worst incident of this kind later on but here is an example:

Any good work that Ray had done beyond his duties were ignored or the credit given to someone else by the supervisor (we come to the evidence later on with the tape recording)

The supervisor started telling Ray that he had a Group 4 Guard lined up for his job - guess who replaced Ray - you've got it - a Group 4 Guard, coincidence - we think not!!

When Ray asked about overtime pay, the supervisor left the following message in the handover book.. The supervisor says that "if you have any problems / suggestions, let's know if you think it's unfair "IN CONFIDENCE" Let's know" - he thought he was very clever saying this because now Ray could complain to him about not getting his entitlement of overtime pay - he gave himself 2 little stars - what really happened was Ray got no overtime pay & he went into the supervisor's bad books for complaining.. You will also notice paragraph 3 which reads "When times are good extra time off will follow - when times a bit harder you are expected to carry on - without complaining - working together in harmony.. (The lodge was always a man down because the supervisor bullied the workers one at a time until they all left - then the other guards would suffer because the supervisor wouldn't change his shifts unless overtime was available - the first to complain was his next target)

The supervisor, after saying no overtime is allowed, went to see the General Manager who said that they could have a small amount of overtime - keeping in mind that they were a guard down, the overtime did not match the missing guards wages.. The supervisor writes this message in the book - he says that the overtime will be shared equally & given on the weekend shift - this meant that the guards couldn't put in for an overtime shift because they were already working. The supervisor on the other hand was off on a weekend so he put his name down for the lot because "he had credit cards to pay off" Notice the CANCELLED running right the way across the message - this was because he snatched the lot..

The Supervisor began using the following vulgar vocabulary when talking to Ray:

Shit Stirrer
Shit Stirring Trouble Maker
Shit Stirring Liar
Trouble Making Shit Stirrer
Fucking Dick Head
Fucking Dick
Fucking Knob Head
Fucking Prick
Fucking Thick
Fucking Wanker
Fucking Arsehole
Fucking Stupid
Fucking Liar
Fucking Gob Shite
Fucking Shit House
Fucking Big Guy

Ray was also told the following things by his supervisor:

To “shut his fucking mouth”
That he “Talks a load of shite”
That 'the supervisor' doesn’t want “to listen to all this shit”
That “Ray rocks the boat & he's going to get everyone sacked”
That “Ray's the worst fucking guard they’ve ever had there”
That “Ray's the worst Fucking Dick they’ve ever had there”
That 'the supervisor won’t discuss anything with Ray because “He's Fuck all to him”
That “Ray is never to confront 'the supervisor' because Ray works for him”
That Ray is to “keep his fucking nose out of 'the supervisors' business”

The supervisor began giving Ray every afternoon shift which meant he would have to relieve his supervisor every week day (the supervisor would only bully when he was alone with Ray, this gave him the opportunity to do it everyday) - Ray complained to his supervisor that this was unfair as it meant not seeing his children for weeks (afternoon shift was 4pm - midnight) - the Supervisor said it was out of his hands & he should see HR about it so Ray wrote in book 31 asking for a meeting with HR - The Supervisor on seeing this panicked & told Ray's brother that Ray was 'rocking the boat' & told him to get Ray to cancel the meeting & he would sort it out in house. Ray cancelled the meeting.

His Supervisor, on realizing his cover might be blown, went to HR & told her that Ray was not fulfilling his job description - HR was now requesting to see Ray.

She asked Ray if he had any problems and Ray stated the following:

His Supervisor had told him he was to be taken on permanently after 6 months & that he was at this moment working without a contract & he showed her his contract which wasn't filled in. HR said his contract was pathetic & she said she would get Ray a new one.

Ray stated that he was unhappy with being given an unfair share of shifts to which HR said she would tell the supervisor to stop it.

Ray also told her that he had cancelled the meeting to see her because his supervisor had said it would be sorted out in house - Ray added that his supervisor would dwell on the fact that he was now complaining to HR about him but that he would cope with any come backs.

After this meeting (which was very conveniently NOT recorded) the bullying escalated at an alarming rate - the supervisor spent more & more of his working time in HR's office or on the phone to her complaining constantly about Ray. The supervisor kept writing "HR informed" on every message Ray left in the book..

At the beginning of January, Ray requested a weeks holiday because he had just completed a 60 hour week over Christmas & then subsequent shifts over new year & he needed a break (the guard who had been doing the rotas & had threatened Ray's brother with violence had got a job in the factory & left without giving a weeks notice with the supervisors permission so the lodge was 2 men down again & the supervisor refused to change his shift pattern - he only did 8 hour days & weekends off leaving the 3 remaining guards with solid shifts and hardly any breaks)

His Supervisor refused his request for a holiday for the second time saying that he could not take time off because he had not acquired enough working days.

The following day when Ray came on for his shift, he saw that his Supervisor had given himself the week off that he had asked for - the supervisor would be off for 2 weeks in total as the first week was a first aid training course.

Ray was put on a week of days, the shift only the supervisor does. His brother did the week of days after him. What Ray endured during this week was enough to make him write a formal grievance against his supervisor - unfortunately, Ray was never given the chance to submit it until after he was sacked - there is no procedure available to him because of his temporary status.

Three incidents occurred during Ray's week of days:

The factory pool car's mot had run out and the car was being driven on & off the premises. No memo had been left about the MOT, the out of date certificate was pinned to the wall - Ray immediately took the car out of service. He couldn't access the cars paper work to find out which garage to take it to because all of the documents were locked in the Supervisor's secret safe. So he used his initiative & took it to a garage, had it MOT'd & returned to service. The Supervisor gave the factory's gardener the credit for doing it.

Ray had to refer people to managers for authorisation to do certain things in the factory - Ray referred to the authorisation sheet that was in the lodge - it was dated 1999. Ray was shouted at by managers who had not been on the yearly refresher course & therefore could not give authorization! Ray had to request an up to date sheet - on his return to the lodge, the supervisor commented in the book that the office now had a new sheet - he took credit for Ray's work - would you like to work for a company that left ill informed people in charge of your health & safety?

And now the most serious incident - the factory's gardener was dropping off pornographic DVD's to be collected by people out side of the factory. Ray did not realize what they were at first until one of the bags that were dropped off was open. The covers depicted young women giving men oral sex - Ray was not impressed but there was nothing he could do about it because:

The Gardener reads the handover book so he couldn’t report it in there

The Gardener & the Supervisor are friends so the Gardener would find out that Ray had reported him

He couldn’t go to HR because she would have told the Supervisor that Ray reported it which would have got back to the Gardener

The Gardener would have been dismissed had Ray complained & because the Supervisor allowed him to go through all of the guards files in the office, he knew were Ray lived.

The guards weren’t told who was in charge of them in the Supervisor's absence so he could not raise it with them.

All Ray could do was write 'video shop now closed' in the book. His brother who did the week of days after Ray had to put up with boxes of soap powder filling the lodge. He also left a message in the book about it being like a shop & asked whether the supermarket goods he was 'minding' were stolen. In the Security Job Description , 1o states that workers must be kept out of the lodge unless on company business - this was the supervisor's reply to both Ray & his brother..

The message reads "Boys in future only take items into lodge to be collected by whoever if you are happy to do so and it's ok to do room wise - Again use your own common sense in what you allow" In other words, the supervisor was quite happy to handle stolen & illegal goods on his shift - the company however have stated that this practice did not happen - pathetic!!

The Supervisor turned up at the office during his holidays & took book 31 home with him. When the Supervisor came back off his holidays he put a letter in Ray's Pigeon hole to say he was to be disciplined in 2 days time (which gave Ray no time to organise a companion to accompany him) - Click here to view the letter

Ray cancelled the meeting to get more time to find a companion & it was postponed. Then Ray received another letter telling him to attend a disciplinary on the 28th February at 8am - Click here to view the letter

What happened next is unbelievable..
