It has long
been known by MFI Employees that their union, the T&G, signed a
sweetheart deal with MFI - even though none of the employees wanted
them. The T&G were Ray's union & we have mentioned on
this site about the unions complete & utter ignorance when it came
to protecting their workers.
The T&G allowed Ray to be bullied, they allowed MFI Factory
worker's health & safety to be breached - they allowed all this to
happen because they ignored it!
UPDATE:
The ISTC, the union who care for their members welfare have won
their case against the T&G - excellent news for MFI
employees who can now have a union that supports the worker & NOT
the company!!
The following was taken from www.hystc.com
Dear Colleague
TUC Award re. ISTC,
T&GWU & GMB
To keep you updated on
developments I am writing to inform you of the judgment made by the TUC
regarding our case against the T&GWU recruiting ISTC members and
signing a recognition agreement despite ISTC having substantial
membership at MFI.
Following a formal hearing held late last year the TUC Disputes
Committee has ruled in our favour stating that:
• the T&GWU
knowingly and actively recruited members into their union knowing they
were ISTC members.
• The T&GWU shall
pay to the ISTC £25,000 in compensation for the above.
Furthermore the TUC
Disputes Committee concluded that the T&GWU did not consult or take
into account the interests of ISTC (and its membership) before
concluding an agreement with the company and therefore rules that:
• The T&GWU
should approach the company to persuade them to amend the current
agreement to include the ISTC and GMB.
• In addition the
T&GWU should meet with ISTC to establish procedures, between the
unions, for there to be regular consultation about collective matters
that impact on our membership at MFI. In areas such as annual pay
negotiations the T&GWU are expected to consult with ISTC beforehand
and take account of our opinion.
• With regard to
points raised by ISTC about persons coming under pressure to join the
T&GWU, the Committee awarded that “there will be no discrimination
by the company or the T&G against employees who choose not to join
the T&G”
The above judgment by
the TUC Disputes Committee is binding and has to abided by.
The decision is welcome
news for ISTC members within Howden, Scunthorpe & Stockton and I
would personally like to thank all members and activists who have put in
a great effort to secure this decision.
Could I also personally
thank you for your continued support. I will do all in my power, based
on the above, to ensure your views are heard loud and clear within MFI,
both on a daily basis and at the negotiating table
Yours sincerely
Eddie Lynch
Assistant General Secretary.
